The History of City Church

Prior to February 2006, CCM was simply a dream in the hearts of Pastors Johnny and Karen Jernigan. But...on February 5th, 2006, City Church of Mobile became a REALITY! Pastors Johnny & Karen took a leap of faith and with God's grace birthed a new work in Mobile, AL.

The Holy Spirit directed them to a literal High Place in Mobile. The location the Holy Spirit put his finger on was in the Spring Hill area. They secured a lease/purchase of an existing building on Old Shell Rd. The church worshipped at this location for one year and nine months. It was an amazing beginning where the church experienced growth at every level.

Pastors Johnny & Karen began praying about and searching for ways to expand by year's end 2006. It was apparent that additional facilities were needed...and FAST!

In December 2007, the Holy Spirit had divinely directed the leadership to its second location - a vacant church was sitting and waiting for City Church on Cottage Hill Rd. The purchase was made. The church continued to grow at this new location. There was both spiritual and numerical growth as the congregation continued to hunger for His Presence. They worshipped on Cottage Hill Rd. for just over 2 years. Pastors Johnny & Karen were amazed as His hand divinely guided them.

As time went on and parking, as well as facility needs, became an issue, they once again trusted the Holy Spirit's guidance for the next step. In the fall of 2009 a miracle was in the making. Pastors Johnny and Karen began talking with local pastors Bill & Brenda Smith about a possible merger/marriage of the two churches. Pastors Bill & Brenda were pastoring Bay of the Holy Spirit Church (Formerly 1st Assembly of God) and had been shepherding that congregation on Michael Blvd. for the past decade. The two couples prayed, fasted, and believed for Him to lead. And that's exactly what God did...He led. The two churches became one on January 10, 2010. It has been, and continues to be a picture of unity in the Body of Christ. City Church of Mobile is alive and well...to God be the glory!

The pastors, as well as the congration eagerly await their next move with Him. City Church desperately wants to hear His voice and be the voice to the City of Mobile. The prayer of Pastors Johnny & Karen continues to be the same. They want to raise an army of believers in the city of Mobile that know Him and make Him known! The leadership at City Church desires for any and all to come and experience God's presence with us.
